RTI’s Sean Halpin named Fellow of the Gerontological Society of America

Honor recognizes RTI researcher’s distinguished contributions to aging research

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. — Sean Halpin, Ph.D., a qualitative methodologist and gerontologist at the independent scientific research institute RTI International, has been named a Fellow of the Gerontological Society of America (GSA). Fellow status is the society’s highest class of membership and recognizes individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the field of gerontology.

“Being named a GSA Fellow is a profound honor,” said Dr. Halpin. “I have been engaged with the Society since 2008, and it really feels like my professional home, a place where I have grown as a researcher, connected with mentors and colleagues, and contributed to work I deeply believe in. This recognition affirms not only my own efforts, but the shared commitment of those I’ve been fortunate to work alongside.”

GSA is the nation's oldest and largest interdisciplinary organization devoted to research, education and practice in the field of aging. Fellow status is awarded through a competitive nomination and election process conducted by the GSA Membership Committee.

This distinction comes at varying points in a person’s career and is given for diverse activities that include research, teaching, administration, public service and practice, according to GSA. Fellows are chosen from across GSA’s membership groups.

Dr. Halpin has more than 15 years of experience in aging, dementia, and patient-centered care research. Currently, he leads and contributes to multiple qualitative and mixed-methods studies focused on patient experience, clinical outcome assessment and aging.
